Pay no nevermind to that I.V. stand. (Thanks, Nicole.)

Fidelity

I am shocked to discover that I am relatively committed in a knitting project relationship. Many extremely funny blogs ( Yarn Harlot leaps screaming to mind) are based on flitting from one yarn and/or project to another. I laugh at them until I cry. Then I go back to this:

I have turned it 90 degrees so you can see it: The left arm on the left side, the front part (so far) on the top, the back at the bottom, and the neck hole that looks surprisingly right for a neck hole. If you click on the image, you will get the original orientation, which is much less nauseating to look at. It shows all of the approximately 250 stitches splayed out on a loveseat in all their monotonous stockinette glory. I made the body part longer, since I am (ahem) fond of draping fabric in an effort to hide the hips. (Doesn't work, but it's a compulsion. That silhouette of me by the title is pretty accurate.)

Tough choices

So many choices, so little time! Like a French Ice Dancer, I might change affiliations. Because this is just too funny:

Lobotomy!

Ok, I modified the sock chart. Took out some of the forehead. Lobotomized him, sorta. You can see from the blank part on top how much I moved the top down.

I think this is the perfect skull for my project. The Pirate skull from the hat and mitts is a little glowering, but this guy's not too cartoony.

Motif

Tried to make my own "skully" motif. Yuck. It was horrible. No matter what I did, it looked like a big black and white smily face. So I'm stickin' with Hello Yarn's great skulls...unless I can remember where that great skully sweater lives on the web...

...OOOooh! Ooooh! I found a great one at Hello Yarn on this sock pattern. I am thinking I will make a black hat with this white skull, and if I have time, I will knit another hat as lining. Maybe with flames...eh, we'll see. We can burn that bridge when we get there.

Rippin' Hat 1.0

Well, I am still dancing around like Ed Grimly, (although I look more like Edith Prickly!) with the sheer joy of planning DS15's "Rippin Hat". For inspiration, I have turned to this free pattern for an ear-flap style hat:

and this free pattern for the motif.

I thought maybe this motif at first:

I guess it all depends on what kind of *Wool I end up using. The Hello Yarn pattern for the hat would take me waaaaay longer than 16 days to knit.

Now I just have to figure out if I am going to line the hat, and if I am going to knit the lining or use arctic fleece. I think a knitted lining would stretch better. Hey, I could even knit his name into the lining. Hmmmm. Everything depends on where I am at day 12 or 13, eh?

*Wool=acrylic knitting worsted, unless I can get out of town to shop. Don't hate me, that's all they have here.

Olympic Fever!!!

Wow! I am so excited, I must say! (I'm dancing around like Martin Short on SNL!)

I just paid a visit to the *venue for the 2006 Winter Knitting Olympics. How cool is that? I am going to start training--right away.

I can hardly wait for the thrashing and gnashing of teeth that is me casting on Opening Ceremonies.

*You can too, just click on this post's title.

Late Breaking News

So my dear, sweet 15 year old son had a little mishap last night. He slipped running up some stairs, and broke the 4th metatarsal bone of his right foot. (I think that's how you say it, anyway. I looked it up in online "Gray's Anatomy". )

It could be a lot worse, since it is broken, but not out of place. All we gotta do is keep it all in alignment, keep him off of the foot for a day or two until the swelling goes down, and he gets a cast.

So as he's getting wheeled down the hospital corridor to get his rental crutches, he says, "Wow, my first broken bone!"
I wanted to smack him! Sure, I got my first broken bone at his age (right ring-fingertip crushed by slapshot--my fault, I was out of position) but what a thing to say while your mother is pushing a wheelchair you're sitting in. At least, 15 year old boys should heal fairly fast.
